Grand Pre-Ride: Map & Info

Knowing where the top of a climb is can mean the difference between pedaling or walking to the top of the hill. That, and because pre-riding is a fancy excuse for a road-trip, is why Epic Rides encourages everyone to pre-ride the Grand Junction Off-Road Presented by U.S. Bank.

Unofficial Grand Pre-Ride weekend is scheduled for June 21st.

In addition to learning how to successfully navigate trails like Butterknife, Twist-n-Shout and Andy's Loop, pre-riders will discover Grand Junctions great restaurants, bars and shops located around the DT Swiss Event Hub on Main St. in downtown.

Note, this is an unofficial pre-ride, meaning there's no start time, no finish line, no neutral support and absolutely no expectations; arrive prepared with a course map, health insurance, typical provisions for a ride among friends and, most importantly, a sense of adventure.

Welcome Pinetop-Lakeside as Tour Host

Epic Rides welcomes back the terrific communities of Pinetop-Lakeside as our host for the 2014 Tour of the White Mountains on October 4, a time of year when the desert heat can still be cranking. Welcome fall by escaping to 7,000 feet elevation in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, where the air is cool and the mountain biking is stellar.

In its 19th year, the Tour is stronger than ever thanks to its new venue at the Pinetop-Lakes Activity Center & Stables which offers a natural amphitheater with live music and immediate access to fresh new routes featuring the area's best singletrack.

2013 was a sellout year for the Tour, and with only 700 spots available and 15 kegs of sudsy Sierra Nevada libations to be consumed, 2014 Tour registration is on track to sell out early once again.

Be inspired while climbing 12,000-foot passes, forging high mountain streams, crossing the Continental Divide three times and celebrating at the Series Awards Party in downtown Breckenridge.

Grand Ride'n Seek - Win a $2,799 Scott Scale!

We all played hide-n-seek as kids; usually it ended with Billy getting accidentally locked in an old refrigerator or Jane getting bitten by a rogue neighborhood K-9. To help relive the days of exploration and discovery, Epic Rides and Scott Sports are excited to introduce "Ride'n Seek" for a 1 in 20 chance to win a Scott Scale 930 valued at $2,799.

Scott Scale 930
The Skinny:
Epic Rides will hide 20 different Grand Trail Nuggets (i.e. water bottles) at super-cool-awesome mountain bike events we're attending this summer and throughout random trail systems we frequent. Once a bottle has been "hidden", its location will be announced via our Instagram feed and on the Grand FB page.

All who find a Grand Trail Nugget will win:

  • One free entry into the Grand Junction Off-Road p/b U.S. Bank
  • An enclosed $5 dollar bill to purchase* a post ride Sierra Nevada Brew
  • A backcountry.com coozie Backcountry.com
  • An Epic Rides bottle opener to open said post ride Sierra Nevada
  • A free sample of Stan's Notubes sealant...because Stan's pioneered tubeless.
  • Trail fuel in Gu Energy Roctane and Chomps!
  • Grand Prize: a 1 in 20 chance to win a Scott Sports Scale 930

Among lots of trail booty, each Grand Trail Nugget represents a chance to win a brand new Scott mountain bike. Need clues? Then follow the Grand Junction Off-Road Facebook page and Epic Rides Instagram feed for hints on the location of the latest Nug's whereabouts.

Happy hunting!

Stan's Goes Carbon

For more than a decade, New York based Stan's NoTubes has produced tubeless conversion kits, rims, and complete wheelsets, but has kept avid mountain bikers waiting for tubeless-ready carbon rims. The wait is finally over, and it was worth it.

The all new ZTR Valor 29'er Carbon Fiber Wheels from Stan's are three times laterally stiffer than Stan's aluminum rims, while offering better radial compliance and allowing the wheels to stand up to harder impacts. Check'm out here!

Arts and Culture in Grand Junction

The City of Grand Junction prides itself on having a vast collection of publically owned art and sculptures that can be found throughout the city. Many of these pieces showcase the talents of local and regional artists. View a gallery of all the works. Then, on your next visit to Grand Junction, go and see each of them in person!
