backcountry.com Bike & Gear Expo

Is your old gear starting to smell a little stinky and look a little threadbare? Then head on over to backcountry.com and take a look at their list of "essentials" for the weekend in Prescott. Celebrating 18 years of helping outdoor enthusiasts gear up for the next adventure, Backcountry is one of the largest online retailers of outdoor apparel equipment and an Official Sponsor of Epic Rides.

The backcountry.com Bike and Gear Expo will feature more than 75 vendors, including names like Scott Sports, Shimano, Ergon, CamelBak, GU Energy and many more.

backcountry.com will be giving away a tricked out Niner, Sierra Nevada will be handing out swag all weekend and the Hi-Health Wellness Block will have tons of giveaways and sample products to fuel your day on the bike.

The expo is a perfect opportunity to peep some new gear and get equipped for a big summer of riding.

Check out the expo here.

Shimano Reveals New XTR 11-speed

Last weekend, Shimano revealed first looks at its much-anticipated 2015 XTR 11-speed group. Featuring 1x, 2x, and 3x chainring setups all utilizing the same crankarm, XTR delivers versatility not found with other crankarm systems.

For those who prefer 1x systems, the new XTR boasts a proprietary chainring retention technology available in 30T, 32T, 34T and 36T options. The new XTR also features only one cassette option, an 11-speed 11-40T gear ratio with closer steps between shifts designed to help riders maintain better pedaling rhythm.

The new XTR also includes refined Trail and Race hydraulic disc brakes that are lighter than ever as well as new M9000 series carbon wheels available in both 27.5" and 29" sizes.

Stop by Shimano's special XTR booth on event weekend to get all the nitty-gritty details on the 2015 XTR group available later this year.

Big Pro Names at the Whiskey

With $40,000 in cash winnings on the line, the Whiskey Off-Road boasts the biggest one-day pro mountain bike event cash purse payout in America. Featuring equal payout to both men and women, the 11th Annual Whiskey Off-Road will feature a who's who of professional talent including names like two-time defending champion Geoff Kabush (Scott Sports), European talent like Markus Bauer (Lexware) and former World Champion Christoph Sauser (Specialized) and world-class female talent including Katerina Nash (Luna Chix), Chloe Woodruff (backcountry.com), Evelyn Dong (backcountry.com) and Amanda Sin (Scott Sports).

Spectators can check out the action on Sunday morning at the turnaround in Skull Valley, see the first over the top of Sierra Prieta and perhaps the best place to catch all the Cross Country action, along Thumb Butte - the last section of singletrack before town. Think technical singletrack between trees, boulders and stream crossings.

See ya trailside,
