Tour of the White Mountains Takes a Fresh Approach to a Classic Event
Town of Pinetop-Lakeside Welcomes
Mountain Bikers From Across the West
(Tucson, Arizona) September 23, 2013 - Riding strong into its 18th year, the annual Tour of the White Mountains has relocated its late season hoedown to the freshly renovated Pinetop Lakes Activity Center & Stables located in scenic Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona.
"The new location offers a host of new opportunities for this longstanding fall classic. With considerable cooperation from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and the Towns of Pinetop-Lakeside "the Tour" has become a very beginner friendly endurance event" said Epic Rides co-founder, Todd Sadow.
With the event nearly full two weeks ahead of event weekend, over 600 riders of all ages and abilities will descend upon the sinuous singletrack of the White Mountains Trail System just in time for the high altitude foliage to put on a magnificent display of fall colors. This year's event will take place Saturday, October 5th with many participants arriving Friday, anxious to get a jump on a weekend of camping under the pines and family friendly activities, including a robust Saturday evening communal campfire and a Sunday morning Pancake Breakfast benefiting the Pinetop Fire Department.
Along with the new locale, Epic Rides also re-formatted the distances of each ride. Riders may choose from a 9-mile singletrack fun ride, 30-mile forest road fun ride, both ideal for the novice to intermediate mountain biker, as well as a 35-mile or 50-mile singletrack challenge categories for those looking for something more arduous. The Tour will also be celebrating the International Mountain Biking Association's
"Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day"
by offering a free kids (and moms) fun ride starting at 10 am Saturday morning. The fun ride is approximately 2 miles.
After a full day of riding on Saturday the festivities will continue into the afternoon with New Belgium's tapping of the kegs and free live music as friends and family come together to enjoy the beginning of autumn.
The 18th Annual Tour of the White Mountains is made possible by the incredible support of Pinetop-Lakesides'
TRACKS, an organization of trail stewards dedicated to the preservation and development of multi-user trails throughout the White Mountains
