INAUGURAL GRAND JUNCTION OFF-ROAD PRESENTED BY US BANK PRO ROSTER ANNOUNCED
Mata, Decker & More - America's Top Mountain Biking Talent Vies For $20,000 Pro Cash Purse
(Tucson, Ariz.) August 19, 2013 - Hosting a large portion of the USA's top cross country mountain bike talent, the Grand Junction Off-Road Presented by U.S. Bank is set to drop-in on the world famous Lunch Loops trail system and beyond in Grand Junction, Colorado Labor Day weekend, August 30 - September 1.
At the time of this release 50 pro mountain bikers (20 women, 30 men) were confirmed to vie for a $20,000 Pro Cash Purse. Notably, the women's category continues its growth trajectory from last April's Whiskey Off-Road nearing equal numbers with the men's Category. Grand Junction hosting the second event of Epic Ride's Off-Road series, one allure is the equal payout (10 deep) between the men's and women's categories.
Steeped with talent, the women's roster includes Monique "Pua" Mata (Team Sho-Air, Cannondale), Teal Stetson Lee (Luna, Orbea, Shimano), and Chloe Woodruff (Crank Brothers, Scott Sports, Momentum Endurance). Both in the throes of closing out strong 2013 seasons, Stan's Notubes' Amanda Carey and Colorado's Deidre York (Gear Movement, Point 6, CarboRocket) are also confirmed to toe the line among the stellar female talent.
Of the 30 men registered to race, strong candidates for the $4,000 first place payout include Kris Sneddon (Kona Bikes, SRAM, Maxxis Tires), Carl Decker (Giant Bicycles), Ben Sonntag (Cannondale, Shimano Cycling), Spencer Paxton (Kona Bikes), and Rotem Ishay (Jamis) all gunning for the top rung of the podium.
Offering the Pro's a whimsy lead out on Friday evening, a Free Community Clunker fat tire Criterium offers all in attendance the opportunity to let their freak flag fly while getting in on the action (separate release attached). Then, the pro women take the downtown Grand Junction course by storm at 6:15pm followed by the men at 6:50p. With ten turns and a beer garden featuring Rock Slide Brewery plus locally harvested wines in turn 8 the Crit course is sure to entertain all in attendance. The #Grandshenanigans due to ensue all 3-days of the government issued holiday weekend are very much a part of cheering on some of America's top riders.
Starting on Main Street at 7:00 am Sunday morning, stage two of the pro category takes flight as the pros set out on the same 40 Grand course as the amateurs rode the day prior. The pro start will be the exclamation point during event weekend, and the center of attention to the amateur racing audience as they seek nourishment after a Saturday filled with hard work and celebratory libations.
