FREE CLUNKER CRIT at GRAND JUNCTION OFF-ROAD
Pro Category Gets Lead Out From Gaggle of Whimsy Characters (e.g. MTB Fans)
(Tucson, Ariz.) August 19, 2013 - Ringing cowbells, endless cheering, and bottomless imbibing will be had throughout Downtown Grand Junction the evening of Friday, August 30th. The Inaugural Grand Junction Off-Road presented by US Bank will be blown wide-open by the whimsical Clunker Crit at 6p on Main Street.
Crits, also known as criteriums, were a tradition started in Europe that would allow rabid cycling fans to catch more than just a fleeting glimpse of their favorite racers. The free Clunker Crit, on the other hand, is far from a pro event. This fast or slow paced hootin' and hollerin' event is for everyone, more akin to a kids' race for adults, and guaranteed to be a great time for participants and spectators alike.
Bacon and big wheels welcome.
Although registration is free, Epic Rides requires all participants who are interested in this community event sign up ahead of time. Registration will be held at the Epic Rides tent located in the DT Swiss Event Hub between 12 pm-5:45 pm on Friday. With their registration riders will receive a paper plate, err...# plate, to write a number, slogan, or whatever else may tickle their fancy. Decorations and creativity are highly encouraged.
An evening of #GrandShenanigans begins at 5:00 pm with the opening of the Rockslide Brewery Beer Garden and the Clunker Crit charging, slowly and possibly with more flare than the local chain restaurant, out of the gate at 6:00 pm. Situated in the thick of it all at turn eight, spectators can catch the Clunker Crit spectacle and stay to enjoy the fast paced action of the Pro Crit starting at 6:15 pm. This pro level event features top competitors from across the country, gets the crowd roaring, and will determine the starting lineup for Sunday's Pro XC Event, the exclamation point on event weekend.
