T.R.A.C.K.S. - THE White Mountains Trails ResourceSeemingly tireless dedication aimed at getting you trail-ed, TRACKS is a fantastic online resource for you to plan your White Mountain adventure. Do a bit of net surfing and get dialed in for your Tour pre-rides. Their website showcases downloadable maps of select trails with access notes, parking tips, elevation graphs... TRACKS has been responsible for realizing 180 miles of trails, due in large part to the massive (over 300) volunteer base and with the support of the recreationally-minded Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside communities. Seemingly endless days of equestrian, hiking - and of course mountain biking options - are available and the region continues to grow with more trails being added to the network. |

Interview - White Mountains Tour Veteran Todd FernauTodd Fernau can lay a claim that his roots with the Tour and the local riding run about as deeply as anyone else's. Not only is Todd the owner of Show Low's premiere bike shop, Cycle Mania, but he has ridden the Tour way back since the third annual on his brand new bike when it was 51 miles for a 2nd (to last) place finish. Every year now Todd has looked to improve his times and is hoping to go sub 4:30 in the 65. Now with three boys he may again ride the 15-miler with his son, Zach. Zach rode his first Tour 15-miler at the venerable age of seven, on 20 inch wheels... Todd: We (all riders local and visiting) should be thankful to TRACKS up here, they put in countless hours improving trails that some of us have written off and would never ride again, like the Land of the Pioneers - it's now a great trail that was just a bunch of jeep roads. Los Burros trail is a local favorite and is considered by many to be one of the best trails in the Southwest. If i were to give a suggestion to ride, it would have to be this trail, but right now my favorite is Panorama Trail which has produced some pretty epic battles as a Strava segment. Los Burros puts you in aspens, grassy meadows, tall pines and spruce that touch the high 7000 and low 8000 ft elevations... |
