Trail Review - Timber Mesa Trail

New to the 2008 Tour route, the Timber Mesa trail is the culmination for all participants as each of the 15, 30, and 60-mile routes all finish by traversing one of the best pieces of singletrack in the White Mountains trail system. The Timber Mesa trail is a moderately difficult trail, six miles long with a few steep grunts and a few rewarding descents.

Everyone who rides in the 2008 Tour will roll over its undulating volcanic-rock surface, which traces a path along the inner edge of Timber Mesa. From this vantage point, views of the meadows below (and the start/finish) will help spur riders to the end of the ride. Ponderosa pine and manzanita scrub line the trail at the top of the mesa while it opens up when descending into the meadows. A strong finishing kick here will bring you back to start/finish area, where we'll have a cold one ready for you.

Check out the following link for an overview of the entire White Mountains trail system (provided by T.R.A.C.K.S), plus find directions to individual trailheads for pre-riding purposes.

Epic Survey - On The 'Note' of Music

Trail Tips with Trail Build & Design Guru Mark Flint

Fix a Knick
A knick is a shallow depression, designed to carry water off the trail instead of running down it. If you happen to stop near one that has filled with loose dirt, use your feet to scrape it clean so it can do its job. If you have shoes on, take them off so you can really make use of your toes.
